The Reader's Companion

The Complete Lost Books
of the BibleEdited by Asher Whitfield

Welcome. If you have scanned the code in the back of the book, you are in the right place. This page exists for one reason: an edition whose whole claim is completeness and honesty should be checkable after it leaves the press. Here you will find the resources the book promises, and nothing it does not yet deliver.

One Hundred Prayers from the Lost Books

The eight prayers printed at the back of the book have a hundred companions here — seven for each of the fourteen books and two for the whole, each drawn from a named passage. Original compositions written for this edition, free to read, print, and pray.

Sources & Editorial Method

Every text in the volume is printed from public-domain scholarly translations: R.H. Charles (1 Enoch, Jubilees, the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs, 2 Baruch, the Ascension of Isaiah), W.R. Morfill (2 Enoch), Hugo Odeberg (3 Enoch), Moses Samuel (Jasher, 1840), G. Buchanan Gray (Psalms of Solomon), and the King James Apocrypha (Maccabees, Baruch, Esdras). A source-and-method note appears at the end of each book in the printed edition; the fourteen interior engravings are Gustave Doré's, reproduced from The Doré Bible Gallery (1886).
